Go Ice Skating This Holiday Season

ice skating

Did you know that the Scandinavians created the first ice skates centuries ago?

They needed a better way to travel during the winter months and realized that gliding across the ice would be faster than walking through the deep snow.

If you’d like to go ice skating this holiday season, the best rinks near our Manassas apartments include:

Prince William Ice Center

As Northern Virginia’s premier ice facility, Prince William offers two rinks for skating, curling, and hockey, and is located just 20 minutes away from our community. The open skate sessions take place throughout the week. They last between 1.5 and 2 hours, and sessions on Friday nights feature a DJ playing the latest tunes. After spending time on the ice, visitors can enjoy a delicious meal or snack at the cafe. Offerings include Uno’s pizza, hamburgers, and mozzarella sticks.

Prince William is also a proud member of USA Hockey’s Adult Hockey Program. It’s home to numerous leagues, and also offer various tournaments and clinics that help players improve their skills.

Haymarket Iceplex

Found inside a former 84 Lumber warehouse, many refer to the Haymarket Iceplex as the Lumberyard. Located just 24 minutes away from our community, this rink opened in 2010 after the Prince William Hockey Club found themselves without a place to play. Their home rink was under extensive repair. They decided to use their fees for ice time and volunteer to build an ice center that everyone could enjoy. Skaters can enhance their skills through the Learn to Skate program. The classes are held year-round every six to seven weeks, and adults can learn on Monday nights at 7:00.

The Haymarket Iceplex also offers an adult hockey league for those looking to have some clean, competitive fun. There are two seasons per year, and teams are split by skill level, not age.

Ice skating is just one of the activities that you can enjoy as a resident of The Elms at Signal Hill Station. To call our vibrant community home, please contact us. We’d love for you to see firsthand all we have to offer.
